Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Analysis of Challenging Behavior

Children with or without disabilities may engage in problem behavior for diverse reasons.

Our Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Analyses of challenging behaviors are conducted by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) across varying settings.

Depending on the severity and setting in which the behavior occurs, an FBA (including a brief or extended functional analysis) is conducted to identify consistent variables in the member’s behavior.

Diagnoses are made when clinically appropriate.

Procedures include:

  • Direct observation of the member in various settings.
  • Thorough review of all pertinent medical, behavioral and academic records.
  • Administration of specific tests as indicated.
  • Interviews with all relevant adults (parents, teachers and other professionals).

The assessment includes recommendations for parents, teachers, and other professionals, geared toward facilitating the member’s current and future success.

Such testing and recommendations can also serve as the basis for requesting special education services and aid in the development of the member’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
