Intermountain in the News – KGUN 9 on your Side Tucson – Autism-friendly park for kids to begin development in Downtown Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. — A new park is coming to Tucson that will accommodate children on the autism spectrum.

According to Intermountain Centers for Human Development, the park will be located downtown, adjacent to Intermountain's new Integrated Care Center for Children (401 N. Bonita Ave)

This announcement comes after Tucson's Mayor and Council recently approved a development and maintenance agreement.

The park's features include: a separate sensory play space for younger kids (2-5 years old) and five "zones" that have sensory playscapes and equipment.

"The new park will be one of the only parks, west of the Mississippi, designed to accommodate those on the autism spectrum and will also include elements for those individuals with physical disabilities," said Intermountain Centers' VP of Development & Communications Paul O'Rourke.

O’Rourke says the fencing and turf will be up in the coming weeks and the other components will be installed over the next 18-24 months.
